About the Cards

windmill watercolour paintingSteppin’ Out greeting cards are hand drawn and painted using watercolors, acrylics or ink mediums. The cards are then printed from their original illustrations on Mohawk superfine, eggshell cover, acid free paper. The finished product size is 5 1/4 x 5 1/4 inches and comes with a 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch white wove envelope.

We chose Mohawk Superfine because of its premium quality, elegant appearance and extraordinary print quality. We were also delighted to discover Mohawks high level of commitment to superior environmental standards.

In 2003, Mohawk became one of the first large scale production facilities to use non-polluting, wind-generated electricity for manufacturing. This single choice helps remove more than 6.1 million pounds of carbon dioxide from the air - the equivalent of taking 500 cars off the road or planting 30,000 trees each year.

chlorine watercolour paintingIn the past, the production of very white and bright paper called for the use of pulps that were bleached with elemental chlorine. This resulted in byproducts that have been found to be environmentally hazardous. In an effort to reduce these byproducts, increasingly, pulp producers are replacing elemental chlorine bleaching technologies with “ECF” bleaching processes; and pulp consumers are favoring “ECF” in their raw material specifications.

What does this mean? “ECF” pulp bleaching technology uses alternative chlorine compounds as a substitute for elemental chlorine, which results in the production of significantly reduced byproducts. Thus, helping to protect our environment.
